From emergency solution to success story

"No way temporary work"Markus Triller was still certain in 2010! The trained mechanic seemed to have found his place back then. He had given up his position as a manager to set up his own car wash and car valeting business in Mülheim and business was going very well.

Within a few years, the tide turned: a large construction site right on the doorstep scared away customers and Markus saw his livelihood threatened. He either had to find a job quickly or sell the house. Out of necessity, he responded to a job offer from DPL, which was still looking for good fitters for assembly work, in order to get back into his old job.

"I wanted to work for you for a few months and run the car wash on the side,"laughs Markus Triller today in conversation with DPL Managing Director Jörg Paas. The two are chatting in a tapas bar in Brielle in South Holland and celebrating Markus' 10-year anniversary at DPL with his colleagues. Not only DPL employees are sitting at the table, but also some colleagues from the power plant operator.

"I was impressed by the teamwork and the Dutch client's trust in us on the construction site right from the start,"recalls Markus, who immediately repaid the trust placed in him with outstanding work performance. The ambitious Duisburg native developed from a specialist to team leader and foreman to senior fitter at the coal-fired power plants near Rotterdam in a very short space of time.

Markus not only impressed as an expert in the maintenance of the coal mills, but also took on responsibility for the team right from the start and has been the first point of contact for Sales Manager Andreas Künsting on site ever since. The management and development of employees is a particular hobbyhorse of Markus, who also completed further training as a specialist in business management during his 26 years as a fitter.

"What I love most about my work is improvising. In the past, we always had trouble with the sliders on the coal dust pipes, which quickly seized up and then jammed. We suggested a better version made of a different material and in a slimmed-down design, which is easier and self-cleaning. The engineer in charge finally approved it and as soon as the material is delivered, they will be converted,"says Markus proudly.

"But what I'm most happy about is that we've become such a great team. That's my greatest passion: forming a team that works hand in hand. Absorbing the weaknesses of individuals in the group and fully utilizing their strengths." So it's no wonder that Markus is highly valued by the team, his superiors and clients. This is how he has made a career - in temporary work!
